SriLankan Airlines to start services to Kochi and increase capacity to four cities

SriLankan Airlines continues to expand its global route network, with increases in capacity starting in March to Karachi, Bahrain, Doha and Muscat, and the launch of a daily service to Kochi. Just last November, SriLankan increased capacity across its network in support of Sri Lanka’s rapidly expanding tourism industry which is enjoying good times following the permanent end to a 30 year war.

Mihin flies to Indonesia from November

Sri Lanka’s first budget airline, Mihin Lanka will commence operating flights to a new destination from November this year, CEO Mihin Lanka Kapila Chandrasena said. Accordingly, Mihin Lanka will fly to Jakarta thrice a week considering the growing potential market share for budget airlines. Mihin Lanka will also enter the domestic airline sector by operating flights between the Bandaranaike International Airport and Jaffna.

Two Star Class Hotels in Kalpitiya

In a move to cater to the booming tourist industry following the end to terrorism in the country, two investors have come forward to invest Rs 3,200 million in two star class hotels in the Kalpitiya Tourist Zone. These hotels will be established in Vellai and Ippanthivu islands in the Kalpitiya Tourist Zone. These projects are expected to generate more than 1,200 employment opportunities.

Ussangoda - 21st National Park in Sri Lanka

Ussangoda in the Hambantota district was declared as the 21st National Park in Sri Lanka by the Department of Wild Life Conservation. The declaration of the national park was made together with many Departments of Sri Lanka including, the Divisional Secretariat, Department of Archeological, Coastline conservation Department, Geological Survey Department etc and under a gazette notification issued on May 06, 2010 by the Department of Wildlife Conservation. Ussangoda, a tourist attraction adjacent to the sea, is around 350 hectares in size and is situated adjacent to Lunama-Kalametiya, another wildlife park in the area.

Galle_FortGalle Fort, built by the Portuguese who turned the island into a colony in 1505. Much of the structures in the fort were added by subsequent Dutch and British invaders. In 1598, the Portuguese built a small fort which was later extended.  However, when the Dutch took over in 1640, they destroyed all traces of the Portuguese presence.
