ICT paves way to face Global Challenges

G. P. A. Weerasuriya Badulla South group corr. One of the goals of the Mahinda Chintana program is improving information and communication technology which paves the way to face future global challenges, Badulla Mayor U. N. Gunasekara said. He was speaking at the inauguration of the 601 ‘Nenasala’ branch at the Senerath Paranavithana Library, Badulla. This was organized by ICTA Sri Lanka. The Mayor said from today all citizens in Badulla can learn and improve knowledge of ICT from this lab. This place is yours. Get the maximum use of it. Technologist Athula Pushpakumara and several ICT experts also spoke.

Knowledge of ICT among Government Institutional Heads greatly helps for a better public service, Public Management Reforms Ministry Secretary P.B. Abeykoon said. He was speaking at a workshop in the series of 10 workshops scheduled for this year on e-Government policy held at Hambantota recently. Abeykoon has exposed his wide experience in various projects applying ICT for the benefit of people as well as Government employees.

Explaining the objective of the workshops for 2010 ICTA, Chief Operating Officer Reshan Devapura said implementation of the e-Government policy was aimed at creating uniform way for maintaining professional standard of the Government Service. About 106 participants comprising District Secretaries, Divisional Secretaries and Chief Innovative Officers of the Southern Province and the Moneragala district of the Uva Province. e-Government is the use of information and communication technology to improve the activities of the public sector organization enhancing its quality service with more people-friendly approach.
